The Fact Of Pavilion

Have you ever heard about Pavilion in Ewha Womans University? The Pavilion was completed in September. Before the completion of this building, there was a lot of resistance to it. However, recently you can see the Pavilion crowded with guests. We wanted to know what the issues were so we researched student newspapers and blogs to get the facts. Here are the positive and negative effects of Pavilion.

Many Ewha students have negative ideas about this café, not because of the taste of the coffee, but because of the history of the construction of the building. When Ewha University decided to build that building, called Pavilion, they did not inform the students and just started without letting students know.
Thus, after the students found out, many of them gathered together and had protests to make the school stop pushing ahead with this construction.
They argued that in the school, there is insufficient space for students to study and do club activities. Ewha students insisted that building a coffee shop for tourists should not be more important than making rooms for students.
Despite the space shortage, the school ignored the students’ opinion. Ewha students are saying that the school needs to consider the students first and doesn’t have to attract more foreign tourists for profit.
In fact, for at least the last 10 years, the students have been trying to get the Ewha administration to build more rooms. However, the school has been ignoring these requests and their protests. So, you can imagine why the students got upset when they saw the pavilion construction commencing during this summer vacation. The students feel that this was a totally commercial decision and not relevant to students’ education. They also say that because of this dogmatism of the university, many people have feelings against this building and the café.

On the other hand, the intention of Ewha school is different from the students’ opinion. The pavilion can provide a place to rest for students as well as for foreign tourists. In reality, according to coffee shop’s part-timer, Ewha students visit the coffee more than tourists. The reason that they visit often is that this café is convenient to use for these university students due its central location. It is located just in front of the main door and next to the ECC, so students can easily buy coffee quickly. Furthermore, there is student discount, 50% off for Americano. Plus, some students say the beautiful appearance of the Pavilion makes the school brighter. In addition, the taste of drinks we tried was so nice and unique. We would like to introduce the top-3 best seller beverage in Pavilion with our evaluation.

Best top 3 menu

Cloud N Coffee.
This coffee was quite new and unique for us because it was really cold even though it does not have any ice. The taste was similar to the other Americano, but it was a little bit acidic and less bitter. As you can see in the picture, the glass looks like a pint of beer. If you like drinking beer and that atmosphere, try it!

Café latte.
Have you heard of latte art? Firstly, it was so beautiful with the drawing on the top of the coffee. We could feel the smooth taste of milk in it, and smell nice coffee scent. And the coffee mug was quite big compared to usual mugs. So, you can taste a large quantity of coffee with soft flavor.

Vanilla Latte.
It was very sweet and we could enjoy a full vanilla taste with coffee flavor. The taste was quite similar to affogato, which is a type of coffee with espresso and vanilla ice cream. If you try this, you can feel the very soft harmony of the two flavors. The rich vanilla cream left us feeling relaxed and smooth. In addition, it has creamy and sugary whipped cream on the top.

Including most popular top 3 choices, there are various kinds of coffee and drinks in the Pavilion. Also we can enjoy some muffins and cup cake for dessert.
In conclusion, construction of the Pavilion has lots of advantages because of convenience for Ewha students as well as tourists. However, the school needs to consider why Ewha students protested against the Pavilion and why they want more student spaces. The school should also think of ways to increase the number of space for students. As for Ewha students, we feel they should accept the existence of the Pavilion and appreciate its positive aspects.
